knitting for a new friend

The hardest part about moving to a new city is making new friends, especially when I now work from home! I've tried getting invoked in things that will allow me to meet new people...I volunteer for a battered women's shelter, I joined a gym right next to my house, and I go to a knitting group every week (yes, exactly what I said...it's one of my favorite things to do!

I've been fortunate to make a new great friend, Aimee, through knitting! Her birthday was last weekend so I made her cupcakes.

I used a recipe that I found on Pinterest (love Pinterest!), which can be found here. It's a strawberry lemonade cake that I modified for cupcakes. Sooooo yummy! The frosting is the best I've ever had!

I've never really decorated cupcakes before but thought it would be really cute to theme them for our knitting group! I cut strips of pink fondant and added slits to resemble knitting. Then I added toothpicks with little fondant balls to look like knitting needles. I loved how they turned out, especially considering how disastrous it could have been being my first time making them.

I wanted to make a little birthday gift for Aimee to go with her cupcakes so I made a set of gift tags she can use when she gifts her knitted projects.

I made all of the tags using Crumb Cake cardstock and stamped with the "Hand Knit" stamp set (I was so excited to finally get this set). I also used the "knit happens" stamp my favorite retired set "Fashion Statements". I stamped in black, colored each tag with pink and black gel pens and added a fluffy touch with white liquid appliqué.

I made her birthday card by knitting with toothpicks (quite challenging) to make a small knitted project to match the cupcakes.

This inside was stamped using the new happy birthday single stamp...such a great font!

Here's the finished product...

I am pleased with the results...Aimee loved it, which was the best part!

wedding season

I've been so busy the last few weeks with orders for wedding invitations, party favors, and baby shower invitations...I have tons of photos of everything swimming around on my iPad to share. I created many blog posts but couldn't get blogger to cooperate in posting but I think the kinks are finally ironed out and here I am!

My friend Sherry is getting married next month and she's having a destination wedding in St. Lucia. -this is where I mention having a destination wedding is the best way to get married...we had the most amazing trip!-

She asked me to create some thank you cards for all of the couples who will be attending and here is the final product...

I stamped a palm tree (fitting for an island wedding) from the "Plant Hope" stamp set I recently ordered just for this onto Very Vanilla cardstock, which I had printed with verbiage. Then I heat-embossed the tree in silver.

I layered the card onto silver and Elegant Eggplant cardstock sheets (all colors of her wedding). I tied it all together with silver organza ribbon and I think they turned out quite lovely.

She also asked for a set of post-wedding thank you cards, which I made to coordinate with the other cards.

Lastly, I enclosed a personal card from me that also coordinates.

Wishing you an amazing wedding and a lifetime of happiness, Sherry!

mom's birthday

May is full of holidays in our family...Mother's Day, my parents' anniversary, my sister-in-law's birthday, and also my mom's birthday! Here's the card I put together for her using the new Gumball Green In Color...

How much do you love that color?! I also used the new "Floral District" paper, which I love!

A touch of a few butterflies, some bling, and tied off with seam binding ribbon. The ribbon is so versatile...if you pull a few a few threads at the end, it produces the above effect. My favorite!

mother's day

I'm so in love with the new paper from Stampin' Up!

The paper is out of the "Floral District" pack and punched with the blossom punch to create the flower. A little pearl added for bling...so easy!

happy anniversary

Recently, my parents celebrated their wedding anniversary. I made them an anniversary card using the bird punch (my ultimate "go to")...clean and simple.

Lots of embossing...and I love the all white look. What do you think?

button buddies & summer smooches

Have you seen the "Button Buddies" stamp set?

This stamp set is so versatile...you can stamp in various colors, as usual, or you can add one of the color coordinating SU buttons to the circle areas to make your card or project pop! Love!

And speaking of love, don't you just love the new "Summer Smooches" designer series paper (used on this card)?

This is a fun and easy set to make a big impact!

little additions

I've been eyeing the "Little Additions" stamp set ever since it came out in the new catalog last July. I'm always making baby gifts and cards and thought this set would be perfect! Things have been so crazy recently that I've neglected all of my new stamp sets!

Fortunately I had a little bit of time yesterday to put together a baby card...

Looking back I think I needed to add some more pizzazz, but it'll do for now...

more summer smooches

Oops...

I forgot to add this other "Summer Smooches" card to the last post!

Enjoy!

summer smooches

I had to do it...I had to pre-order the new "Summer Smooches" suite, which will be available to the public as of April 1st!

There's bright, cheery paper, a stamp set...oh, and Daffodil Delight seam binding ribbon! Yay!
Oh, and ANOTHER Big Shot die! Look Attis cute little purse!

I didn't do a very good job as this was my first one...I was in a hurry to get photos posted!
What do you think?! If you sign up to be a demonstrator, you could order all these goodies too! There's still time to sign up at the discounted price! Email me for more information! blinginghomethebacon@me.com

lean on me

The "Lean On Me" stamp set is so adorable! I've had my eye one it for some time now, and finally ordered it. There are four stamp that include kids with different sympathetic and thoughtful sentiments.

This little girl is too sweet...

I didn't realize I did such a bad job coloring until I took the close-up photos.

I wish you could see the detail a little better. Her umbrella is colored with a silver glitter pen and outlined in a black wet-look pen to add a bit of definition.

What I'd you think of the yellow paper? It's a sneak peak from the new "Summer Smooches" product suite! One of the best perks of being a demonstrator is getting to order products before anyone else. As an added bonus, the starter kit is on sale right now until the end of March! Take advantage of it while you can!

belated valentine

So I had full intentions of sending out Valentine's Day cards to everyone this year, just as I had full intentions of sending out Christmas cards. However, this move has kept me from finishing either. Bummer.

Oh well...there's always next year! I just love this Fashionable Heart Embosslits Die! It cuts out the hearts AND embossed them all at the same time! I'm hoping Stampin' Up! makes more of these great little guys!

moving cards

With the enlisted help of my mom, I was able to finish the 80 (yes, 80!) moving cars to send out after my husband and I move into our new house. This was the prototype I made before adding the printed verbiage at the bottom and the new address.

I LOVE the combination of Cherry Cobbler and Pool Party! Unfortunately the Neighborhood wheel is discontinued, but I was able to snatch it up before it was gone. A few rhinestones and some bakery's twine and they're finished! I'll have to post one of the completed cards as soon as we send them out in the mail. I don't want to ruin the whole surprise!

new catalog sneak peek... cherish friendship

BTW...this is an older post but, for some reason, it moved to more recently...

I'm visiting my sister-in-law, Tara, in Birmingham this weekend. Yeah! We were able to get our hands on the new catalog and... WOW!!! We are so excited for it to be released!

Until then...

One of the many perks of being an SU! Demonstrator is being able to pre-order some of the new things from the upcoming catalog. Here is a card I just made using the new set "Cherish Friendship"...

I love to color so I knew I needed this set! I also love how this pops up!

More to come shortly...

Here is another card made with the "Cherish Friendship" set from the new catalog...

I am still in Birmingham (having to post using my iPad) so I will post all the supplies to this when I get back home.

Do you like this set as much as I do?
